From Soil to Sip:
Crafting Unforgettable Wine Experiences
Peggy Fiandaca, co-owner and operator of LDV Winery in Arizona with her husband, winemaker Curt Lawrence Dunham, is a true expert in the world of wine and entertaining.
She hosts Big Blend Radio's monthly “Wine Time with Peggy” Podcast, where she shares her extensive knowledge on wine pairings, tasting notes, diverse varietals, the rhythm of harvest season, and much more. New episodes air every 1st Wednesday, often accompanied by Peggy's delicious recipes and pairing tips which are featured in the accompanying “Wine & Bites” digital podcast magazine.
Peggy's journey into the wine industry is a tale of serendipity and passion. With a professional background in community and strategic planning, Peggy and Curt (as LDV owners) once focused on assisting clients in creating successful blueprints.
However, their lifelong love for wine, combined with a fortuitous discovery of the perfect land in Arizona’s Chiricahua Mountains, led them to develop a vineyard now renowned for producing distinctive, hand-crafted wines.
This transformation from urban planning to nurturing grapes embodies their belief that success comes from responding to life's possibilities. Wine has always been a central character in Peggy's heritage. Her family, originally from Sicily, emigrated to a vibrant Italian neighborhood in Chicago, steeped in wine culture. Adding another unique layer to her lineage, her maternal grandfather, William Hogan, was a well-known bootlegger in Kentucky during Prohibition. With such a rich history flowing through her veins, it seems her career in urban planning was merely a delightful detour on her path to growing grapes and fostering exceptional wines.
Every day at the vineyard and winery brings a new, fulfilling experience for Peggy, challenging her creativity, knowledge, and patience. She finds immense satisfaction in connecting people to the land and to each other through wine—whether it's witnessing someone identify a flavor characteristic for the first time or observing their newfound appreciation for a vine's role in producing that perfect sip.
For Peggy, the "grape to glass" journey is truly about fostering connection and cherishing the magic of creation.
