Asheville is famous for craft beer and creativity, and music is right in the middle of it. On this episode of Big Blend Radio's "Adventures in Asheville" Podcast, Lisa D. Smith joins cohosts Steve and Karen Wilson, owners of The Lion & The Rose Bed & Breakfast in Asheville's historic Montford District, for a tour of the city's live music scene, from legendary venues and brewery stages to vinyl listening lounges and a Friday-night drum circle.

Listen to the Episode:

Here's a taste of what you'll hear on the episode:

  • Where to catch a show: The Grey Eagle (Asheville's longest-running live music venue, where you can stand right up at the stage), The Orange Peel (great acoustics and a big stage), Asheville Music Hall and The One Stop, Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, and the underground rooms Third Room, Eulogy and Revival.

  • Breweries with music: Burial Beer, Wicked Weed Funkatorium, One World West, and Highland Brewing's indoor stage and outdoor meadow, plus shows at Sierra Nevada.

  • Asheville legends: Roberta Flack (from nearby Black Mountain), Jermaine Dupri, Luke Combs, Warren Haynes, David Holt, Bob Moog, Marcus King, Balsam Range, Empire Strikes Brass, Andrew Scotchie and Caitlin Krisko.

  • Plan ahead: Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam returns December 12 with Greta Van Fleet, The War on Drugs, Gov't Mule, JJ Grey & Mofro, Daniel Donato and Friends, Jesse Welles, Lukas Nelson and Yola. Billy Strings plays five nights in February. And don't forget Christmas at the Biltmore.

  • The Orange Peel's story: from roller rink to auto parts warehouse to world-famous venue, and the Lionel Richie mural by Gus Cutty.

  • Vinyl and listening rooms: Records in the RAD and Joyful Noise, a vinyl listening lounge that's a coffee shop by day.

  • Festivals and street music: Montford Porchfest, Hillbilly Jam, busking and the Friday drum circle.
